Infinite Doors by Digital Media Artist Takeshi Murata
Why We Recommend it
Murata’s deep engagement with the American cultural subconscious comes to the fore in this exhibit that is inspired by experimental cinema.
Although Murata has recently become known for his series of surrealism inflected CG still life, Infinite Doors focuses on the spiritual core of his artistic practice: the moving image.
Spanning more than a decade, between 2004 and 2016, Infinite Doors surveys the entire range of Murata’s work: form early found footage experiments through seminal datamoshing pieces such as Monster Movie, 2005 and Untitled (Pink Dot), 2006 through to his recent work with Pixar-style CG animation. What emerges is a portrait of an artist deeply engaged with the American cultural subconscious, whose aesthetically seductive works belie a deep knowledge and engagement with experimental cinema.
