你好嗎 I Am Fine: Solo Exhibition by Hong Kong Ink Artist Bosco Law

Why We Recommend it
你好嗎 I Am Fine features intricate ink paintings by emerging Hong Kong artist Bosco Law that explore how we mask our true feelings to conform to societal expectations.
Description
Karin Weber Gallery presents 你好嗎 I Am Fine, the first solo exhibition by emerging Hong Kong ink artist Bosco Law.
In the exhibition’s title is a common Chinese greeting, nei5 hou2 maa1 (你好嗎), which translates as “How are you?” Law believes that as people grow older, their response to this question has become almost instinctive and predictable. “I am fine” is now a standard response, regardless of how one truly feels, masking our real feelings to conform to societal expectations, as in many other circumstances.
Works by Law featured at this exhibition attempt to reveal the conflict between appearances on the surface and the reality beneath, diving beyond the superficial into the deeper, more complex layers of the soul.
Law’s ink paintings are intricate, slowly dotted, in a near-pointillist style, drawing strongly from the process of automatic drawing favoured by surrealist artists. His works characterise the tension between constraint and liberation, and address issues about identity, power and struggle.
