A Lecture by the Father of Chinese Video Art

Why We Recommend it
Asia Art Archive has invited Chinese contemporary artist Zhang Peili to reflect on his video art in China, and the relationship between the body and technology, at their annual artist’s lecture.
Description
Zhang Peili (b. 1957 in Hangzhou, China). is widely considered the “father of Chinese video art” in acknowledgement of his contributions to the development of the genre in East Asia. What is less well-known is how this engagement with the technology of video grew out of the region’s concern with and interest in the body.
In this lecture, Zhang reflects on the work of his early years, which considers the role and place of performance in his own development as an artist and that of China more broadly.
Please note that English interpretation will be provided for the Mandarin lecture. Registration for the free event is required.
