Pushing Boundaries at the Asian Avant-Garde Film Festival

Why We Recommend it
The Asian Avant-Garde Film Festival is back for its third edition, with a variety of visual media that cross boundaries in convention, discipline and culture.
Description
Following the past two years of success, M+ is back with the third edition of the Asian Avant-Garde Film Festival, to be hosted from 29 to 31 May. Themed “Space Enter Shift” this year, the three-day Festival gathers a variety of visual media, each of which attempts to cross boundaries in convention, discipline or culture in their own way. Headline guests announced include among others the renowned Japanese experimental filmmaker Takashi Ito and Hong Kong’s legendary post-punk band David Boring. The Festival’s featured works give a glimpse into M+’s current evaluation of Asian avant-garde’s present and past, what’s new and what has remained.
The associated event Avant-Garde Now: Wayfinding will be hosted on 18 April, featuring screenings, performances and conversations with Asian artists. Two short films by Hong Kong’s Li San Kit (Old Slab and Lucky 7) will be screened. Tickets for this event are sold separately from Film Festival tickets.
