Exploring an Island of Memories at ACO Art Space

Why We Recommend it

ACO Art Space presents a group show imagining Lau Ha Chau, a fictional island shaped by memory, loss and reconstruction.

Description

ACO Art Space’s Rehearsing the Appearance of What Has Yet to Be Named is a group exhibition that features four artists: Alice Ng Wing-yan, Celia Chan Pui-yan, Liu Chun Ki and Zhang Xiuying. Curated by Crystal Chu Wing-tung, the show brings together painting, installation and ceramics, the exhibition unfolds as a collective imagining of Lau Ha Chau, a fictional island assembled from fragments of Hong Kong’s outlying islands.

Moving between reality and imagination, the exhibition considers how memory, disappearance and reconstruction take shape through material traces. The island emerges as both an archaeological site and a metaphor for places we can no longer return to, where absence, erosion and renewal coexist.

Works by the four artists approach this terrain through distinct material languages. Ng’s “Neurotic Internalisation Training” assembles fish scales and neon threads into a fragile mandala, while Chan’s “Integration” reconfigures domestic space through painting. Liu’s “Pearl Cultivation Exercise” transforms bodily residue into quiet endurance; and Zhang’s “Becoming and Bones” embeds discarded structures in ceramic, tracing slow processes of erosion and renewal.
