Art and Milk Toast? A New Take on Hong Kong’s 3:15pm Tea Time

Why We Recommend it

Celebrating art and gastronomy, Tai On Coffee & Tea Shop collaborates with food illustrator Kai collaborates and luxury hotel Cortis to present Tea Time Stories, an edible exhibition complemented by a collection of creative delicacies.

Description

Inspired by Hong Kong’s 3:15pm afternoon tea tradition, Art in Residence: Tea Time Stories reimagines local cha chaan teng classics through food and art.

Presented at Tai On Coffee & Tea Shop and Cordis Hotel, the exhibition features food illustrator Kai’s drawings of authentic dining experiences and food cultures from around the world.

The exhibition is accompanied by a selection of creative treats inspired by local afternoon tea classics. The two venues offer different menus, with the reimagined treats created by Tai On team, led by owner Tiffany Yeung, as well as Cordis’ executive pastry chef Roy Ma.

Originally established in Yau Ma Tei in 1969, Tai On Coffee & Tea Shop was taken over by Yeung in 2022. Retaining its traditional outlook, the shop blends elements of a classic cha chaan teng with those of a café, adding a creative twist to local food culture.

During the exhibition at Tai On, visitors can enjoy tea-time treats including peanut butter egg tart, coconut milk red bean baked French toast and salted kumquat espresso tonic, alongside Kai’s illustrations on the walls.
