Michele Fletcher Draws Worlds That Have Already Ended

Why We Recommend it
Michele Fletcher’s first Hong Kong exhibition, Aftertime, uses wet-on-wet process paintings to depict a post-human landscape where the world has already ended.
Description
Michele Fletcher is bringing her first Hong Kong exhibition, Aftertime, to White Cube Hong Kong. Her wet-on-wet paintings, all created in a single session, express gestural patterns and botanical imagery.
This exhibition, which includes pieces such as “Noonday Demon” (2024) and “Winter’s Curve” (2024), draws on the ideals of philosopher Timothy Morton and writer Michael Marder, reflecting apocalyptic and generative themes. Her artwork also references Georgia O’Keeffe and the abstract expressionist Helen Frankenthaler through her imagery of wild, rugged botany. Art historian Barry Phipps describes her work as “between landscape and memory, the seen and the unseen, and the invisible forces of the scientific and haptic world.”
