Description

Ben Brown Fine Arts’ Alighiero e Boetti: Ononimo traces the mixed media artist’s fascination with systems, language and collective authorship. Featuring works from his Biro and Aerei series, it explores how repetition and delegation produce beauty, meaning and individuality within structure. The title, drawn from Boetti’s 1973 work, fuses the Italian words for “anonymous” and “homonymous,” reflecting his enduring interest in duality and the divided self.

Among the highlights is “Ononimo” (1973), the largest of Boetti’s Biro drawings, an eleven-panel meditation on duality and distributed identity, alongside the black biro “Aerei” (1978–79), where aircraft swarm across densely inked skies. Each piece reveals the artist’s interest in concealing language within form and uncovering freedom through precision.

Born in Turin in 1940, Boetti was a leading figure of post-war Italian conceptual art. His works were exhibited in major institutions such as Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate Modern in London and Centre Pompidou in Paris. Through works balancing intellect and intuition, Boetti transformed repetition into revelation.
