Ink, Paper and Untold Stories at Alisan Atelier

Why We Recommend it

Alisan Atelier presents a screening of The Unsung Heroes of Ink, exploring the vital role of paper and paper-making in Chinese ink art, following by a conversation with director Olivia Wang and curator Alan Yeung.

Description

In light of contemporary artist Lin Yan’s first major solo exhibition in Hong Kong, Alisan Atelier features a screening of The Unsung Heroes of Ink, a documentary that delves into the essential role of paper and paper-making in Chinese ink art. The event highlights the expressive qualities of paper central to Lin’s practice and will be followed by an engaging conversation with the documentary’s director and producer, Olivia Wang, alongside Alan Yeung, associate curator of ink art at M+.

Wang is an independent art curator and writer specialising in contemporary ink art, with work featured in major publications like the Wall Street Journal, ArtAsiaPacific and Orientations. She was a representative of the Ink Society, Hong Kong and is currently an adjunct curator at the National Gallery Singapore.

Yeung is co-curator, with Tina Pang, of M+’s newly opened exhibition Canton Modern: Art and Visual Culture, 1900s-1970s and curator of Yang Jiechang: Chine demain pour hier. Previously, he was a fellow at CAMLab, a new initiative at Harvard University that combines humanistic inquiry with creative digital media practice, and associate curator at the Beijing gallery Ink Studio. Together, they bring deep insight into the evolving landscape of ink art today.

On 12 July, the film screening and fireside chat will last from 15:00 to 17:00. To RSVP, please contact assistant@alisan.com.hk.
