Description

Contemporary artist Zhang Xiaoli showcases her meticulous gongbi technique and imaginative visual experiments in Wandering Mindscape, her first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. Opening on 28 February, the reception marks the start of a year‑long celebration of Alisan Fine Arts’ 45th anniversary. There are three chapters of the exhibition: first through material scenes, then through emotions and finally through the Tao. Each stroll Zhang takes in her paintings uses traditional Chinese fine painting techniques — and at time motifs — to reframe the genre, offering subtle and bold interpretations of both the subject and the composition of landscape paintings.

Zhang has an undergraduate background in fine arts and biology and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Her works have been shown in over 40 exhibitions worldwide and she is currently in-residence at the Niagara Falls Exchange.
