American Satire Speed-The-Plow makes its Debut in Hong Kong
Why We Recommend it
The 1988 play Speed-the-Plow—a satire about the American movie industry—by acclaimed playwright David Mamet will be staged in Cantonese for the first time.
Bobby Gould, a newly promoted movie tycoon-to-be, is visited by an old friend and struggling associate, Charlie Fox, who is hoping to collaborate with Gould on a production that should make his comeback to the industry. However, this plan he has meets an unexpected obstacle.
The original Broadway of Speed-the-Plow starred Joe Mantegna as Bobby Gould, Ron Silver as Charlie Fox, and (making her Broadway debut) pop-icon Madonna. The Hong Kong Debut of the play is produced by Dionysus Contemporary Theatre; it will be the first time the play is performed in Chinese.
