Why We Recommend it

Uncover nearly 4,000 years of Egyptian history with 250 treasures from seven major museums, all on display for the first time in Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Palace Museum’s landmark exhibition.

Description

Hong Kong Palace Museum‘s Ancient Egypt Unveiled: Treasures from Egyptian Museums features the largest, most comprehensive and longest-running display of ancient Egyptian artefacts in Hong Kong. Spanning nearly 4,000 years, the exhibition brings together 250 treasures loaned directly from Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities and seven prominent museums – including the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Luxor Museum of Ancient Egyptian Art, Suez National Museum, Sohag National Museum and recent archaeological finds from Saqqara. Many of these objects, of extraordinary historical and scholarly significance, are exhibited outside Egypt for the first time.

Highlights span four thematic sections: The Land of the Pharaohs, showcasing statues of renowned pharaohs such as Hatshepsut and Rameses II alongside funerary objects; The World of Tutankhamun, featuring gold jewellery, sculptures and the famous quartzite head of Nefertiti; The Secrets of Saqqara, with painted coffins and animal mummies from recent archaeological finds; and Ancient Egypt and the World, reflecting cultural dialogues, including artefacts showing Egyptian interactions with other ancient civilisations like China. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to witness ancient Egypt’s artistic and cultural brilliance firsthand.
