Description

Released in 1985, Angel’s Egg is an iconic Japanese anime set in an abandoned city. A young girl cares for a large egg that she believes to be the egg of an angel, before encountering a boy armed with a gun, who is in search of the bird he saw in his dreams.

Praised for its haunting visuals and enigmatic world-building, the film is written, directed and conceived by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell), with original concept and art direction by Yoshitaka Amano. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of its release, the anime has been remastered in 4K under the supervision of Oshii himself. Fully restored with breathtaking visual and audio quality, it is set to hit the city’s cinema at Broadway Cinematheque this September.

The 71-minute film was selected for the Classics section of the 78th Cannes Film Festival this May, where it had its world premiere screening.
