Another Prank?: Banksy’s “Who’s Laughing Now?” Selling Exhibition

Why We Recommend it

Some of Banksy’s most famous works along with more fun, provoking and controversial pieces that make him one of the most remembered street art sensations will be displayed in this selling exhibition just for 3 days.

Description

“A visionary and trailblazer at the forefront of street art since the 1990s, Banksy has dedicated his career to challenging society’s perception of fine art versus street art.” The remark by Miety Heiden, Phillips’ Deputy Chairman and Head of Private Sales, encapsulates the works featured in the exhibition “Banksy: Who’s Laughing Now?”.

The anonymous artist, who goes by Banksy, first turned to graffiti as a rebellious fourteen-year-old disillusioned with school in Bristol, his home city. Since then, his street art has taken both the UK and the world by storm, especially when he made world headlines for the self-destructive Girl With Balloon at a London Sotheby’s auction in October this year.

Noteworthy pieces in this exhibition include two portraits of Abraham Lincoln which were completed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina as part of the New Orleans murals, as well as the darkly humorous Grin Reaper.
