Art Basel Hong Kong 2019

Why We Recommend it
Art Basel, the biggest event in Hong Kong’s increasingly rich art calendar, with 242 leading galleries from across continents coming together, plays host to talks and installations.
Description
Art Basel has effectively put the city on the international culture map since its inception six years ago. A sensorially and intellectually stimulating affair, Art Basel’s Hong Kong edition promises to be as engaging, multi-disciplinary and ambitious, featuring hundreds of leading exhibitors showcasing modern and contemporary art, film screenings and specifically-commissioned installations by local and international artists.
The fair also puts on a series of art conversations concerning the global contemporary art scene. Guest speakers include artists, curators, collectors, critics gallerists, art lawyers, and other industry players. The ‘Conversations’ series is programmed by Editor and Writer Stephanie Bailey, sister of late master Buddhist sculptor Derek Bailey.
Among the extensive list of Art Basel’s events are a host of immersive art installations in the fair’s ‘Encounters’ section. The fair’s ‘Insights’ section zooms into curated projects highlighting artists from Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, offering a closer look into artists’ careers, particular themes, and art periods from 1900 through to the present day. ‘Discoveries’ section offers a platform for international emerging artists, where ‘Kabinett’ features curated exhibitions in an architecturally delineated space within their booths.
