Art Basel HK Encounters: Pacific Place and Starstreet Precinct

Now in its fourth year as the sole offsite venue for Art Basel Hong Kong’s Encounters, Swire Properties’ Arts Month transforms Pacific Place and Starstreet Precinct into a shared space where art intersects with perception, communication and material culture.

At Pacific Place, Christine Sun Kim presents A String of Echo Traps, her first large-scale Hong Kong commission, translating sound and deaf experience into bold graphic forms through a video installation and floor mural.

At Starstreet Precinct, Gabriel Rico’s I Have Anticipated You II draws on traditional Mexican culture, reimagining the cactus as a surreal site for projecting wishes, dreams and ideas. Combining natural and everyday man-made objects like coins and steaks, the work reflects on value, desire and transformation. Together, both installations offer distinct yet complementary ways of understanding how we interpret and shape the world around us.
