‘What Were You Doing at 25?’ Asks Asia Art Archive Exhibition

Why We Recommend it

Following its first chapter in May and June, At 25: Artists’ Early Worlds, Part II revisits artists’ formative years through archives, early works and new commissions.

Description

Asia Art Archive’s (AAA) At 25: Artists’ Early Worlds, Part II concludes its 25th anniversary exhibition series, following a four-part first chapter presented in May and June. Revisiting the formative years of artists Salima Hashmi, Holly Lee, Bahc Yiso and Raqs Media Collective, the exhibition is anchored by the question, “What were you doing at 25?” Drawing on archival research, it maps early trajectories across artmaking, education, writing and advocacy. Rare materials from personal and institutional collections are shown alongside early works and new commissions, reconstructing intimate artistic worlds at a pivotal age. Expanding art historical narratives, the exhibition foregrounds sociocultural contexts, personal memory and intergenerational storytelling, reflecting AAA’s research-driven approach and its evolving network across Asia and beyond.

On 24 July, the opening reception runs from 18:00 to 20:00, with a curator-led tour at 18:30. Free admission; registration required. Jeebesh Bagchi of Raqs Media Collective will be in attendance.
