SEEN | UNSEEN: Au Yeung Ping Chi’s Bamboo Sculptures

Why We Recommend it

Au Yeung Ping Chi’s second solo exhibition, SEEN | UNSEEN, transforms bamboo craft into see-through sculptures that reveal life’s hardships, hopes, and unseen emotions.

Description

Au Yeung Ping Chi, a master of Hong Kong’s paper crafting heritage — one of the city’s representative intangible cultural heritage categories — and an emerging voice in bamboo sculpture, presents his second solo show SEEN | UNSEEN. Known for intricate paper works that first gained notice, he now evolves traditional craft into bold sculptural forms for contemporary discourse.

This bamboo sculpture exhibition strips away traditional functionality to engage pure form and ideas. Raw bamboo strips form see-through structures, inviting viewers to trace visible shapes, knots and directions alongside unseen voids, light play and shadows. These works reflect the ever-shifting tapestry of human experience — hardships, reconciliation and the city’s bustling subconscious — in Central’s heart.
