Bah Humbug: Christmas Classic “Scrooge, The Musical” Staged in Hong Kong
Why We Recommend it
Produced by the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, the second revival of this musical transports the stingy, Christmas-despising protagonist of Charles Dickens’ famous novella A Christmas Carol to the present and future.
In this critically acclaimed musical adaptation of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge is transported from the past through the present to the future through song and dance. His journey to learning the truth about happiness, starting on Christmas Eve, is guided by the ghost of his good friend and three spirits.
The musicals’ score, lyrics and book by Leslie Bricusse are closely adapted from the music and screenplay of the 1970 musical film Scrooge. The premiere of this production by the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre won three accolades at the Hong Kong Drama Awards, including Best Actor (Tragedy/Drama), Best Makeup and Image Design and Top Ten Most Popular Productions.
