Beam me up, Melon: Hong Kong’s Second Annual Science Fiction Conference

Why We Recommend it

This diverse conference will bring together more than 25 internationally-recognised speakers, including esteemed authors and emerging writers, as well as an interdisciplinary cohort of filmmakers, game developers, scientists and investors.

Melon is a passion project bringing together leading voices in the world of science fiction. It celebrated its first edition last year, hosting a number of thought-provoking talks on the industry in China and beyond.

This year promises to be an equally interesting event, featuring a number of engaging speakers.

One of this year’s well-known speakers is multi-award winning author Allen Steele, best known for The Death of Captain Future, Where Angels Fear to Tread and The Emperor of Mars.  Mr. Steele will be leading a talk titled “The History of Science Fiction, and Why it Matters”.

Bao Shu, a writer from China who has won six Nebula Awards for Science Fiction in Chinese and three Galaxy Awards for Chinese Science Fiction, will talk about his own creative process and the challenges and opportunities as a writer.
