Isabel Parra: Between Symbiosis and Extinction

Why We Recommend it

Isabel Parra examines symbiosis and extinction in Hong Kong through layered, symbolic works on interdependence.

Description

Sin Sin Fine Art’s 8 – Between Symbiosis and Extinction examines humanity’s position within an interconnected web of ecological, social and cultural systems. Drawing from her experience in Hong Kong, visual artist Isabel Parra reflects on a dense, vertical city shaped by contrasts — tradition and modernity, coexistence and inequality, growth and environmental strain. Through abstraction, layered textures and recurring motifs such as circles, fishes and numerical symbols, her works evoke cycles of life, transformation and interdependence.

Parra’s multidisciplinary practice — spanning painting, printmaking, photography, sculptural objects and public interventions — questions how individuals and societies relate to their environments, and to each other. Moving beyond a purely ecological reading, the exhibition also considers philosophical and political dimensions of survival, responsibility and empathy towards others. It invites viewers to reflect on what it means to co-exist within fragile systems, and how collective awareness might shape more balanced futures.
