Bhagavad Gita: Timeless Wisdom for the Modern World

Why We Recommend it

Directed by renowned theatre director Tang Shu-wing, Bhagavad Gita blends wisdom from the ancient Indian scripture with contemporary theatre to illuminate timeless lessons for modern life.

Description

Bhagavad Gita returns this June with a powerful new run. Rooted in the ancient Indian epic Mahabharata — a roughly 2,000-year-old foundational text of Hindu morality — the story unfolds on the eve of a great war, where the god Krishna imparts profound spiritual wisdom to the warrior Arjuna. Themes of yoga and jnana (knowledge), dharma (duty, dutiful action) and self-realisation come alive, exploring how detachment from the ego leads to true spiritual awareness. In today’s world of endless conflict and rapid technological change, this ancient scripture offers timeless insights that resonate deeply with contemporary challenges.

Directed by acclaimed theatre director Tang Shu-wing, Bhagavad Gita is a sensory journey blending vivid visual and auditory imagery with modern theatrical techniques. Actors Mandy Wong and Endy Chow return in lead and support roles, delivering 10 Cantonese performances. Two English-language shows with a different cast invite diverse audiences to also experience this spiritual and artistic masterpiece.
