Trevor Yeung: An Introspective View on Ecology and Self

Why We Recommend it
Trevor Yeung’s fourth solo show at Blindspot Gallery is an introspective dive into ecology, selfhood and impermanence through tanks, sculptures and photography.
Description
Trevor Yeung’s fourth solo exhibition at Blindspot Gallery, swallowing rumination, gracefully, features aquariums, horticulture, found objects and installations to depict introspective perceptions of natural and artificial ecologies. Running from 24 February to 2 May, it orchestrates scenarios that evoke emotional resonance and social dynamics, the artist prompts contemplation of selfhood and intersubjectivity. The show coincides with his first institutional exhibition in France, Garden of the Nine Suns, at CAPC Bordeaux, which will run from April to September.
Highlights include the tank installations, “Soft and milky, but don’t smell it (Fish tank)” and “Portrait of Lonesome George,” featuring milky water with sinking seed bottles mimicking unfulfilled desires and dreamlike fecundity. “Tears of Falling Suns” is a group of suspended sculptures of volcanic lava rocks and sunstones inspired by Chinese mythology — Hou Yi shooting down nine chaotic suns — symbolising fallen celestial beings, absence and colliding worlds.
Complementing the exhibition, Yeung will join artist Lap-See Lam for a conversation on 21 March at 16:00. The talk will be moderated by Olivia Chow, director of curatorial programs at Vancouver’s Chinese Canadian Museum, who curated Trevor Yeung: Courtyard of Attachments at the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024 and its return presentation, Trevor Yeung: Courtyard of Detachments, at M+ in 2025.
Born in 1988, Yeung employs botanic ecology and aquariums as metaphors for human relationships, drawing from personal experiences in image-based works and large installations. Representing Hong Kong at the 2024 Venice Biennale (collateral), he has also exhibited at various distinguished cultural institutions and events around the world such as Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris (2022), Kunsthal Aarhus (2024) and Guangzhou Image Triennial (2025). He was previously shortlisted for the Future Generation Art Prize 2021 and Sigg Prize 2023.
