Antoine de Saint Vaulry’s Meditations on Identity and Belonging

Why We Recommend it

Artist Antoine de Saint Vaulry explores identity through mixed media prints on maps, reflecting life between cultures in Hong Kong and France.

Description

With a French background and now living in Hong Kong, artist Antoine de Saint Vaulry draws on his expatriate experience to explore cultural identity and the meaning of home. His exhibition, Home is a Map, transforms maps — especially of Hong Kong — into mixed media prints layered with concentric lines. These pieces blend the familiar with the foreign, reflecting the fluid boundaries of identity shaped by life between cultures.

What began as a simple experiment with whiteboard markers for his children evolved into a unique visual language turning maps into tools for understanding and personal reflection. Home is a Map invites viewers to contemplate how they navigate belonging and redefine “home” through culture and heritage.

The private opening is on 5 December, from 18:00 to 21:00, with the artist himself and Christine Drulhe, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, in attendance. To attend, RSVP via email before 1 December.
