Book signing: Re-encountering Ryuichi Sakamoto, with Rensis Ho

Why We Recommend it
Hong Kong celebrity photographer Rensis Ho relieves his encounter with the Japanese music legend in photo book Ryuichi Sakamoto 1998.
Description
It’s said a single encounter with genius can change a life forever — something Rensis Ho would doubtless agree with. In 1998, the Hong Kong photographer had the opportunity to shoot Ryuichi Sakamoto, on a chilly winter’s day during a visit to the city. Now, 28 years later — and three years post the Japanese composer’s death, age 71 — Ho is sharing the full shoot for the first time in a lavish photo book. Simply titled Ryuichi Sakamoto 1998, the slender volume is artfully styled like a deluxe LP release — comprising a 36-page booklet, 60cm square poster, and a vinyl picture disc containing no music. The pictures capture Sakamoto in a relaxed mood, wrapped up warm in a thick leather jacket, and apparently interacting with the photographer’s dog.
Ho is no stranger to celebrity encounters, having also shot local icons Anita Mui and Stephen Chow as well as global trendsetters Kate Moss and Pharrell Williams. To mark the book’s release, he’ll be signing copies and leading a panel talk alongside the book’s designer Benny Au and publisher Lau Tung-Pei, founder of the Hong Kong photography platform PhotogStory and bookshop Devedo.
The event beings at 15:00, with the panel commencing at 16:00
