Description

Directed by Salvador Simó, the Spanish animated film Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles will be shown in Hong Kong theatres this June.

The film has won multiple accolades, including the Goya Award for Best Animated Film, the European Film Award for Best Animated Feature Film, and Jury Distinction and Best Original Music at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival. It was even one of the three films shortlisted to be the Spanish entry for the 92nd Academy Awards, despite losing to Pain and Glory in the end.

Set in Paris in 1930, Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles tells the story of how leading Surrealist Luis Buñuel shot Las Hurdes: Land Without Bread, a documentary about one of the poorest Spanish regions. After the scandal surrounding his film The Golden Age, Buñuel was left penniless and unable to begin tackling his next project Las Hurdes. However, Buñuel’s good friend, sculptor Ramón Acín, buys a lottery ticket and promises to fund Buñuel’s next film if he wins.
