Burma at a Glance: ‘Bespoke’ and ‘Skirting the Issue’

Why We Recommend it
Acclaimed Burmese artist Htein Lin’s (b. 1966) first solo exhibition in Hong Kong will showcase both the modern and traditional sides of his multifaceted home country.
Description
There are two parts to this exhibition. Bespoke mirrors Myanmar’s current spiritual, political and material existence whereas Skirting the Issue is a collaborative project with Burmese women who reflect on accepted doctrines that lead to gender inequality.
From a series of vibrant and elaborately-patterned paintings on traditional Burmese skirts called Longyi, to a sculptural installation made from wagon wheels, the show delves into the diverse sides and histories—the dark and the colourful—of the nation.
