Film Screening: Cambodia After Farewell

Why We Recommend it
French-Cambodian filmmaker Iv Charbonneau-Ching retraces his family’s flight from war-torn Cambodia, confronting the silences and ideals that shaped their fate.
Description
Fifty years after his mother and aunts fled Cambodia’s Civil War (1967-1975), Iv Charbonneau-Ching accompanies them on an emotional journey back to their homeland. The film follows their search for traces of those they lost and their attempt to reconcile with the ideals that once inspired — and destroyed — their families under the Khmer Rouge. By blending personal memory with collective history, the film becomes both a voyage of remembrance and a reflection on belief, survival and silence.
A French-Cambodian writer, filmmaker and teacher at the French International School in Hong Kong, Charbonneau-Ching creates documentaries that bridge personal narratives and historical insight. His acclaimed films Cambodia After Farewell and Siamese Dreams explore identity and loss across Southeast Asia. He also runs Human History, a digital project dedicated to preserving stories of people who have lived through transformative moments in world history.
From 18:30 onwards, there will be complimentary free-flow drinks from 18:30. Then, from 19:00 to 20:30, there will be the film screening followed by a Q&A session.
