Traditional Chinese Blessings as Cartoon Drawings at Sun Museum

Why We Recommend it

Sun Museum presents 52 quirky cartoon drawings by Sun Museum director Yeung Chun-tong that blend traditional Chinese auspicious blessings with modern life.

Description

The exhibition Auspicious Drawings features original drafts of quirky cartoon drawings by Sun Museum director Yeung Chun-tong. The works are published in his latest book, A Life Story of Mixed Emotions.

Featured in the exhibition are eight polychrome and 44 monochrome drawings that blend traditional auspicious meanings with moments of modern Chinese life.

Yeung grew up in the 1950s and 60s when Hong Kong was becoming prosperous yet still riven by poverty. Channelling the hardships he had experienced, he decided to narrate his personal experiences through the fictional character Ping Buen-yat in his books, in an attempt to share the idea that difficulty in life should not prevent us from confronting it and finding joy in suffering.
