Cat Cinema and Other Contemporary Classics: Hong Kong Asian Film Festival 2017

Why We Recommend it

Over the course of one month, The Hong Kong Asian Film Festival (HKAFF) will screen the best of contemporary Asian cinema in venues throughout Hong Kong.

Description

The 13th edition of The Hong Kong Asian Film Festival opens with two newly released Hong Kong movies, In Your Dreams, a provocative story of young love, and grim and engrossing whodunit Somewhere Beyond the Mist.

Other local highlights include The White Girl, a visually and emotionally captivating drama by renowned cinematographer Christopher Doyle and first-time director Jenny Suen, and Tomorrow is Another Day, an endearing look at how an ordinary middle-aged mother deals with her husband’s affair and finds a new path for herself.

The HKAFF also showcases movies from Taiwan, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and mainland China, and screens film programmes centred around different themes, such as “Meow”, a selection of movies in which cats play a significant role, and a retrospective on the late Japanese filmmaker Suzuki Seijun.
