Celebrate the Birthday of Kwan Tai: A Hong Kong Symbol of Brotherhood

Why We Recommend it

While Hong Kong is still affected by the pandemic, temples across the city celebrate the birthday of the god of brotherhood, Kwan Tai, on August 13 this year.

Description

The birthday of the crescent sword-wielding and all-knowing god of brotherhood, Kwan Tai, is celebrated this year on August 13 as faithful worshippers leave offerings of incense and roast meat.

As one of the most well-known gods whose legend originated from the Three Kingdoms era, he is the epitome of masculinity, and embodies values of loyalty and righteousness.

With several temples dedicated to him, including the oldest in Tai O, and the largest in Sham Shui Po, festivities held in his honour can be witnessed across the city. However, social distancing restrictions will certainly impact the scale of worshippers’ celebrations.
