Description

From 26 March to 17 August, Asia Society Hong Kong Centre hosts Objects of Play: Hoo Mojong Centennial Retrospective at the Chantal Miller Gallery. The exhibition features nearly 100 paintings, prints, drawings and archival materials spanning the career of this influential artist.

Born in Shanghai, Hoo Mojong lived and worked across Taipei, Brazil, Spain and Paris, where she spent 37 years as a painter and printmaker. Hoo’s work is celebrated for blending Chinese and Western art styles and for thoughtful exploration of the spirituality and power found in everyday objects and the human body. Despite her importance, Hoo’s work remains less known internationally, making this retrospective a significant reassessment of her contribution to modern art.

Co-organised by the Asia Society Hong Kong Centre and Bao Foundation, and co-presented with Yang Bin and Yan Qing and Mountain Art Culture and Education Foundation, the exhibition traces key themes in Hoo’s artistic development and philosophy.

Free public guided tours are available every weekend, led by Asia Society’s expert docents in both English and Cantonese. These tours operate on a walk-in basis with a maximum of 16 participants per group. For heritage public tours, registration is preferred but walk-ins are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors are encouraged to check the updated tour schedule on the Asia Society website.
