Jeremy’s Bathhouse: Chan Wai-lap’s Experimental Installation

Why We Recommend it
Chan Wai-lap’s Jeremy’s Bathhouse transforms Oi! Glassie into an immersive installation exploring global bath cultures and imaginations.
Description
Hong Kong artist Chan Wai-lap’s Jeremy’s Bathhouse is a site-specific exhibition that transforms Oi! Glassie into a bathhouse-like environment designed as a social experiment. At its centre is the installation “LEVO LOVE,” a heart-shaped pool surrounded by chromatic soap, a surface composed of more than 1,200 handcrafted ceramic tiles created using Jingdezhen’s traditional tile-making techniques. Eyes also appear in a neon sign created with Hong Kong artist Jive Lau, subtly echoing themes of watching and being watched — adding a faint tension to the playful, immersive space.
Through the timed release of mist at the exhibition space, it creates a shifting visual ambience that moves between clarity and obscurity. Inspired by the rare left-spiral snail, Chan also reflects on the balance between preserving personal uniqueness and adapting to one’s surroundings.
On 21 March, Chan will lead an artist tour from 15:00 to 16:00 at Oi! Glassie. Conducted in Cantonese, the tour will share insights into the ideas, stories and making process behind the works in the exhibition. RSVP via email required; slots are limited and available on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
