Threading Inwards: Textiles, Spirituality and Memory Across Asia

Why We Recommend it
Threading Inwards highlights 14 Asian artists to explore how textile practices connect spirituality, memory and collective experience.
Description
Featuring 14 artists from across Asia, CHAT’s Threading Inwards examines textiles as a powerful medium for spiritual reflection, emotional healing and collective memory. Co-curated by Wang Weiwei, curator of exhibitions and collections at CHAT, with rising Asia-Pacific voices Eugene Hannah Park, Kurosawa Seiha and Wang Huan, the exhibition explores weaving, dyeing and stitching as tactile languages of belief, imagination and lived experience.
Highlights include Marcos Kueh’s monumental site-specific installation, “The Spirit of Labour: ZhiNü,” explores the textile industry and workers, IV Chan’s immersive work titled “Chloronest” invites introspection and artist-in-residence Mooni Perry’s video traces female spiritual traditions in Hong Kong. New commissions by Citra Sasmita and Hu Yinping further connect ritual, craft and community collaboration. Spanning diverse practices and cultural contexts, the exhibition encourages visitors to slow down and engage sensorially, positioning textiles not only as material objects but as vessels of care, resilience and human connection.
