Japanese Indie-pop Trio Chilli Beans Bring the Groove to Tides

Why We Recommend it
Sitting in a sweet spot between twee indie and phat funk revivalists, Japanese all-girl trio Chilli Beans hit harder on stage than on record.
Description
Chilli Beans possess a somewhat disingenuous name — a big-hearted tribute to their favourite band. Yet this Japanese all-girl trio are far funkier — and far more fun — than the stadium-filling juggernaut that is latter-day Red Hot Chili Peppers. This was in easy evidence when they took a mainstage for a sundown slot at Clockenflap in December 2025, winning over a sizeable local crowd with a mix of J-indie charm, musical chops and raw bottom end groove. So successful was this Hong Kong debut that the festival has partnered with local promoters Neon Lit to bring them back for a headline slot at Tides. More evidence? VIP packages have already sold out.
Watch out for their Vaundy collab, “Rose,” a tight funk-pop banger, full of vintage squelch and driven by an infectious strut. Showtime is 20:00.
