Chinese Opera Festival 2019

Why We Recommend it
The 10th edition of the Chinese Opera Festival celebrates the enduring performing art through an opening programme hosted by the Xiqu centre and three performances by esteemed Chinese opera companies.
Description
The festival opens in June with two Peking opera (Jingju) ensembles – the China National Peking Opera Company and the Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company – who will present six performances, offering a panorama of the artistry of the northern and southern masters of China’s national art form.
In July, the Tea House Theatre will be staged with an ensemble of renowned local artists who present “Guangdong Quadrangle – Four Folk Music Types in Concert”, a combined showcase of four musical art forms indigenous to Guangdong. On the Grand Theatre stage, the Jiangsu Kunqu Opera Theatre presents Nankun – Kunqu of the Southern school.
In August, in the Tea House Theatre, the Jingkun Theatre and Shandong Peking Opera Theatre offer audiences a new perspective on two of the most well-known genres, Peking opera and Kunqu, with “The Fragrance of Chrysanthemums and Orchids – A Close Encounter of Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera: Jingkun Theatre and Shandong Peking Opera Theatre”.
Please note that all performances contain regional languages and will be supplemented with Chinese and English subtitles.
