Chuen Lung Visual Archive at Koon Man Space

Why We Recommend it
The Chuen Lung Visual Archive at Koon Man Space offers a fresh perspective on the soundscape and cultural heritage of Chuen Lung, a historic Hakka village in Hong Kong.
Description
The Chuen Lung Visual Archive at Koon Man Space captures the cultural heritage and transformation of Chuen Lung Village through multidisciplinary research. The project explores themes such as everyday life, vernacular knowledge, landscape anthropology, and natural ecology, creating a detailed record of this Hakka community.
The current open studio, Investigation of Sound and Modernology, features artists Sui Fong and Sunny Wong. Sui Fong’s “A Stream a Path” centres on the village’s soundscape, reviving auditory memories by turning daily routines and natural sounds into creative expressions. Her “Chuen Lung Instruments,” inspired by villagers’ stories, invite visitors to reconnect with the environment through sound.
Sunny Wong’s “Chuen Lung: The Pulse of Objects” examines folk wisdom found in everyday objects and practices. By observing villagers’ intuitive use of tools and rituals, he reveals a rich cultural knowledge that reflects a harmonious relationship with the local environment.
In addition to the open studios, a series of participatory events invites visitors to engage with Chuen Lung’s sounds, stories, and creativity through walking tours, listening workshops, talks, and family sound-making sessions. These activities highlight creativity as an essential part of daily life and cultural continuity.
