Hosted by the Alliance Française Hong Kong, the classic French crime film Elevator to the Gallows (1958) will be screened free of admission.
Self-assured businessman Julien (Maurice Ronet) plots to murders his employer, the wealthy arms dealer Simon Carala (Jean Wall), with help from Florence (Jeanne Moreau), who is his mistress and his employer’s wife. Julien climbs into Simon’s office on a rope, kills him and leaves unnoticed.
However, Julien accidentally leaves the rope at the crime scene and realises he must retrieve the evidence. On his way out, Julien becomes trapped in the building’s elevator, which turns out to be only the beginning of his bad luck…
