City Contemporary Dance Festival 2017: Quality Choreography from across East Asia

Why We Recommend it

The first edition of the City Contemporary Dance Festival 2017 will see a versatile range of quality dance productions from Hong Kong, China, Japan and Korea and other East Asian countries.

Description

Founded in 1979, the City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) is Hong Kong’s leading contemporary dance company. The inaugural edition of the City Contemporary Dance Festival 2017 will open with a revival of one of CCDC’s most renowned productions: Testimony by choreographer Helen Lai, for which veteran stage actor Lee Chun-chow returns to this pioneering dance theatre which deciphers the music of Shostakovich.

This six-day dance festival will see many Hong Kong premieres,  including Cold Arrow – Game of Go (Weiqi) (Beijing), a work filled with Chinese cultural imagery; NINA – materialize sacrifice (Japan), a piece that explores how to create a body which would absorb the energy of the floor and would not fall even when being pushed; The Encounter of Confucius (Shanxi), a performance that clashes modern thoughts with traditional culture; and closing piece Moon-looking Dog ‧ I saw the elephant (Korea), a search for the inner self within the modern identity.
