Contemplion: A Very Contemporary Lion Dance

Why We Recommend it

Hong Kong choreographer David Leung rejuvenates an old tradition by throwing contemporary dance moves and modern music into the mix.

A new dance inspired by Hong Kong’s long lion dancing tradition,  Contemplion brings together lion dance performers, parkour-exponents, silk and rope specialists, pole dancers, aerial performance artists along with specialised lighting, live video, electronic music arrangements and costume design.
The unusual project combines contemporary dance and aesthetics with a tradition that has deep ties to Cantonese Kung Fu, as it is explored in Zolima Citymag’s interview with the Kung Fu master of lion.
