Contemporary Ballet Beyond The Stage: Talks, Films, Workshops and Symposiums

Why We Recommend it
Co-curated by Hong Kong Ballet’s Artistic Director Septime Webre and David Liu, this series of events is set up to provide greater insights into contemporary ballet and the choreographers’ creative processes.
Description
Ballet PLUS+’s mission is to enhance the understanding and appreciation of the power of ballet in the contemporary world.
“What I bring is a natural inclination to open the doors of ballet – that’s just who I am,” said Webre in an interview with Zolima CityMag in November last year. “The idea is to activate the city through dance so that people in Hong Kong can view themselves as ballet-goers by stumbling upon dance in the streets – viewing the city as a creative city where art is experienced everywhere.”
In order to move ballet outside the confines of the theatre, Ballet PLUS+ will screen iconic dance films such as West Side Story, play host to free interactive workshops by Christopher Wheeldon and Trey McIntyre, who are two of the most celebrated international choreographers of our time, and lively salon talks with Webre, Wheeldon, McIntyre and acclaimed choreographer and former dancer Alexei Ratmansky.
The event culminates in Wheeldon, Ratmansky, McIntyre and The Beatles, a show choreographed to Camille Saint-Saëns’ compositions, music by The Beatles, and more.
