CPY and Elah Wong: Perception and Process at Gallery Exit

Why We Recommend it

Gallery Exit brings together two exhibitions that question how we see and interpret images today. CPY and Elah Wong each approach painting and image-making from distinct perspectives, inviting visitors to reconsider the boundaries between perception, reality, and creative process.

Description

At Gallery Exit, CPY and Elah Wong present parallel exhibitions that probe the nature of visual truth and the act of painting itself.

CPY’s a_likeness_of_everything_and_nothing explores the shifting ground of visual authenticity in a world saturated with digital images. The artist collective examines how images created without real-world references blur the line between the authentic and the artificial. For CPY, meaning only emerges through human engagement, prompting visitors to reflect on what constitutes reality when visual truth is no longer anchored in the physical world.

In the adjacent gallery, Elah Wong’s Unknown unknowns offers a contrasting approach rooted in instinct and bodily movement. Wong’s new series is created without sketches or reference materials, each work unfolding as an immediate, physical response to the blank canvas. Her layered, textured paintings transform flat surfaces into three-dimensional forms, using motifs like mannequins and scarecrows to challenge viewers’ perceptions and inject humour into the act of seeing. As a Generation Z artist shaped by the digital era, Wong continually examines humanity’s self-positioning in a technological society, seeking to redefine painting as a vehicle for creative exploration.

Together, these exhibitions at Gallery Exit invite audiences to navigate the uncertain terrain between image and reality, and to experience the possibilities of painting as both concept and gesture.
