Life is Drag: Artist Sharing from HK and Belgium at Current Plans

Why We Recommend it

Moderated by cartoonist and cultural worker Kaitlin Chan, artists from Hong Kong and Belgium gather for a conversation on drag, identity and survival through performance.

Description

Moderated by cartoonist and cultural worker Kaitlin Chan, Current Plans hosts an intimate evening of conversation and reflection with visiting Belgian drag queen Edna Sorgelsen, alongside photographer and art director Kary Kwok, documentary filmmaker Ray Yeung and dancer and educator Briar Armani. Co-organised with the Belgian Consulate, the gathering looks beyond the spectacle of drag to consider the layered performances embedded in everyday life.

The speakers reflect on codeswitching, the “in-betweenness” of identity, and the creative strategies used to navigate visibility, belonging, and survival across cultural contexts. Bringing together perspectives from queer filmmaking, visual culture and activism, the session opens up a nuanced exchange on how identity is shaped, negotiated and expressed in Hong Kong and beyond.

On 31 May, snacks and drinks will be served at 18:00, followed by an artist sharing and moderated discussion at 18:30. Space is limited; pre-registration is required.
