Current Plans Exhibition: Where Languages and Systems Diverge

Why We Recommend it

Conceived between Italy and Hong Kong, Current Plans’ latest exhibition explores play as a subversive language when words fail, mistranslate or are constrained.

Description

Conceived between Italy and Hong Kong, Current Plans’ Imagine a Dead Blue Whale Inside the Pocket of a Giant frames play as a shared language across fractured systems of speech, governance and meaning. When words falter — through mistranslation or restriction — artists turn to games, glitches and improvised rules to express the unsayable. The exhibition is inspired by artist Roberto Fassone’s poetic installation of imagined scenarios — ranging from absurd to poignant — suspended throughout the space, where impossible images open up a pocket for curiosity, humour and uncertainty to coexist.

Through games, algorithms and social structures, the artists probe how to articulate what resists language. Highlights include visual artist Adele Dipasquale’s Lose Voice Toolkit, which reclaims non-verbal communication as an act of rebellion and Tap Chan’s fragile sculptural systems that unravel ideas of order and navigation. Part of curator and PhD researcher Giulia Pollicita’s Italy–Hong Kong Express research project.
