Description
Die Fledermaus, Johann Strauss II’s timeless operetta, is reimagined by Hong Kong Grand Opera in a near-future city ruled by mega-conglomerates. Corporate lawyer Falke hosts a Gatsby-themed party to welcome CEO Orlofsky, while executive Eisenstein, facing a prison sentence, seizes his last night of freedom. His wife Rosalinde, also in an affair, plans to expose him. Amid mistaken identities and fading revenge, the characters shed their masks to find a fleeting moment of joy. Conducted by French maestro Pierre Vallet and directed by Eugene Ma in his local debut, this production blends classic elegance with contemporary edge.
Having graduated from New York University’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts, Ma is known for his acting and directing work across American theatre. He has held teaching positions at Ivy League institutions and collaborated with renowned names like CCOHK’s founder and artistic director Leanne Nicholls in the WILD musical, building a strong network in the performing arts community.
