Dragon Boat Festival 2026

Why We Recommend it

Celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival with delectable rice dumplings and spectacle of citywide races.

Description

The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Tuen Ng Festival, falls on 19 June this year and will be observed as a public holiday across Hong Kong. From mid-June until 1 July, and staying true to long-held traditions, dragon boat races will take place in coastal and harbourfront locations throughout the city — including Stanley, Tai Po, Sha Tin, Aberdeen, Sai Kung, Tuen Mun, Cheung Chau, Tai O and Tap Mun. Each venue presents its own rhythm, with variations in race schedules, course lengths and participating teams.

Adorned with vivid, time-honoured motifs, dragon boats cut across the water powered by synchronised paddlers and the steady pulse of onboard drummers. Spectators are invited to line the shores and cheer on the crews as they race in a lively display of teamwork and heritage.

In the lead-up to the festival, bakeries and restaurants across Hong Kong will offer zung3 (粽) — glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves, filled with a range of sweet and savoury ingredients — bringing a taste of tradition to the celebration.
