Dream of the Past: Ancient Chinese Court Dances

Why We Recommend it

This acclaimed dance show will take you back to the ancient world of emperors, court dancers and warriors, citing archaeological references to their music, etiquette, costume and literature.

Description

The Classical Dance Department of Beijing Dance Academy teams up with the Hong Kong Dance Company to present a re-run of Dream of the Past: Ancient Chinese Court Dances, following its sold-out, critically acclaimed premiere in 2016.

The show opens with “Spring Excursion”, a piece from the delta region in the 3rd to 6th century, featuring the rhythmical steps of young girls. Other performances include “Chu-style Waist Dancing”, which epitomises the Chinese perception of beauty and explores dance styles predating the Qin dynasty (before the 3rd century BCE), and excerpts from the Han Dynasty dance drama Dancing Girl of the Bronze Sparrow Pavilion.
