Retrochronology: Final Chapter of MetaMaps

Why We Recommend it

Eaton’s Retrochronology draws the two-year MetaMaps project to a close through installation, publication and film.

Description

Marking the culmination of the two-year MetaMaps project, Retrochronology unfolds at Eaton HK as a layered exhibition (Diorama), publication (Necromancy) and documentary film programme (Contra Fantasias). Developed through workshops exploring multimodal mapping — the translation of data across performance forms such as sound, light and movement — the project fostered exchanges between artists in Hong Kong, Australia and Spain. This final iteration reassembles fragments from earlier presentations, including manτεία, Ground on Ground and 70AR, into a reflective, archival format.

Highlights include the Hong Kong debut of Spanish sound artist Xoán-Xil López, alongside works by kinetic artist Joseph Chan, new media artist Lazarus Chan and multimedia artist Fronte Vacuo. A limited-edition publication and a documentary by award-winning film and theatre director Alberto Gerosa extend the project’s inquiry into process, collaboration and artistic memory. Collectively, these elements trace a transnational network of experimentation while revisiting the unseen textures behind its evolution.
