Why We Recommend it

The Grand Dance Poem In Between — Wu Guanzhong’s Ink Odyssey weaves together dance, music and light through a cross-disciplinary collaboration between East and West to explore the art of the Chinese master.

Description

Drawing inspiration from the painter Wu Guanzhong, Grand Dance Poem In Between—Wu Guanzhong’s Ink Odyssey weaves together dance, music and light to guide audiences in exploring his art. As a towering figure in Chinese art with international acclaim, Wu pursued the convergence of East and West, bringing together the aesthetics of traditional Chinese ink and modern Western art in his work.

Part of Le French May 2026, the performance features Yang Yuntao, artistic director of the Hong Kong Dance Company (HKDance), as choreographer; Hong Kong singer Ivana Wong as composer and guest performer and French artists Dominique Drillot and Sophie Laly, in a cross-disciplinary collaboration. It captures the fluid essence of ink and emotion, creating a dialogue that transcends cultures, mediums and time between Asian and Western cultures.

As a prelude, HKDance will present four free pop-up dance performances, bringing dance into the Wu Guanzhong Art Gallery at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, offering audiences an early taste of the cross-disciplinary dialogue between art and dance.

There will be two performances at the Wu Guanzhong Art Gallery on 18 and 25 April, scheduled for 14:45 and 16:45.
