Wild Awhile: Elah Wong’s New Solo Exhibition at Gallery Exit

Why We Recommend it
Elah Wong Tsoi-wai’s solo exhibition showcases the artist’s distinctive visual language through a new series of paintings and unconventional ceramic works.
Description
Working primarily with acrylic, Elah Wong Tsoi-wai constructs layered notions of time and space across the canvas. Among the highlights of this solo show are “A Song,” in which the composition loops through space like a suspended music player, while its undulating curves evoke the rhythms and journeys of life. In “Tomato is Life, Strawberry is Love Life,” Wong uses tomatoes as symbols of vitality and strawberries to represent pleasure, paying tribute to Frida Kahlo’s final 1954 painting, “Viva la Vida.”
The exhibition also extends into three dimensions. In collaboration with ceramicist Benny To Kai-on, Wong presents a series of unconventional ceramic works that undergo three firings, rather than the usual single glaze firing. The repeated firing process echoes her painterly approach of building up layers over time. Deliberately left open and unfinished, the works retain a sense of possibility, inviting continued transformation and interpretation.
The exhibition is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 12:00 to 18:00.
